Brandon Biggane joins the Roadrunners: Leadership and structure for the upcoming season

April 9, 2026

American catcher Brandon Biggane joins the Berlin Roadrunners for the upcoming season. He brings leadership, a strong mental approach and college experience.

With Brandon Biggane (22), the Berlin Roadrunners add a catcher who combines on-field responsibility with a clear understanding of team dynamics. The Albany, New York native recently graduated from Bates College, where he spent four years as a student-athlete and team captain while earning a degree in psychology. Now, he takes the next step in his career and joins the Roadrunners organization.

Growing up, Biggane played multiple sports before baseball became his main focus. What ultimately drew him to the game was the unique challenge it presented. “Baseball stood out to me because it was the one sport that really challenged me both mentally and physically at the same time,” he explains. The constant presence of failure became a defining element early on. “You can do everything right and still not get the result you want… so it taught me how to stay level-headed and keep working regardless of outcomes.”

At Bates College, his role as team captain shifted his perspective from individual performance to team dynamics. “The relationships you build mean far more than any stat line ever could,” he says, emphasizing trust and communication as key elements of success. His interest in psychology developed directly through baseball. “I wanted to strengthen the mental side of my game, so I began reading sports psychology books—and from there, it really took off.” Today, that connection continues to influence his approach to the game.

The move to Berlin marks the next step in that development. “Germany, and Berlin specifically, is exciting for me on a few different levels,” Biggane says. Having studied German for several years, the opportunity to now live in the country feels like a natural continuation of that path. “Being able to experience the culture firsthand feels like a full-circle moment.” At the same time, the change of environment is a deliberate part of his development. “It’s an opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone, compete in a new environment, and continue growing both as a player and as a person.”

The connection to the club played a key role in that decision. “For me, it really came down to the people and the teammates I’ll be competing alongside. From the very first call with Adrian, I got a strong sense that this was the right fit—not just from a baseball standpoint, but from a personality and culture standpoint as well.” That first impression quickly turned into a clear feeling about the organization. “The organization values the right things… being in an environment where you connect with the people around you and share a common mindset makes a huge difference.”

This aligns with the Roadrunners’ approach of building players through structure, responsibility and a shared understanding of the game. In this context, Biggane is expected to contribute not only on the field, but also to support the development of players across the organization.

From the club’s perspective, his role goes beyond his position as a catcher. His experience and structured approach make him a valuable addition to the coaching environment as well, supporting both the 2. Bundesliga team and the development of younger players while working alongside the club’s youth coaches.

“What stood out to us is his mindset and the way he approaches the game,” says sporting director Adrian Daues. “He brings leadership, structure and a strong understanding of team dynamics. As a catcher, he also fills an important need for us. His ability to work with pitchers and manage a game will have a direct impact on our pitching staff.”

On the field, Biggane takes on a central role behind the plate, where communication and game awareness are key. “I take ownership of building relationships with pitchers, understanding their strengths, and putting them in the best position to succeed.” His approach is defined by composure and consistency, especially in demanding situations. “I try to stay composed, make adjustments, and keep a steady presence for the team,” he explains, adding that “the best teams don’t get too high or too low… they carry themselves like they’ve been in every situation before.

Away from the field, the move to Germany brings new experiences. Living outside the United States for the first time is something he consciously embraces. “What will be new for me is the experience outside of baseball… I’m really looking forward to that challenge,” he says, while also looking forward to using the language in everyday life. “Ich bin super begeistert.”

For the upcoming season, his role is clearly defined within the team structure. “I want to be a reliable catcher, help manage the pitching staff, and create an environment where our team can compete at the highest level every game.”

With Brandon Biggane, the Roadrunners add a player who combines structure, leadership and a strong understanding of the game.

“I’m really excited to join the Berlin Roadrunners and can’t wait to get on the field.”

We’re pleased to welcome Brandon Biggane to the Berlin Roadrunners and look forward to the season opener in Braunschweig. Go Roadrunners!
